Rough Rider Print

This set is a dive into American history. It can be bought individually or as a set!

The Rough Rider has been through it all. War, Teddy Roosevelt, drug scandals, murders, tattoo legends, and eventually became an iconic New York tattoo even though it’s a cowboy. This single image represents so much.

But honestly, after I finished creating The Rough Rider, he looked a little lonely. Every cowboy needs his Cowgirl, so I made one for him. But she’s not just a cute cowgirl. Like The Rough Rider she has an equally important history. She is a tribute to the women like Annie Oakley and Lucille Mulhall. Women who created the cowgirl image, and cemented the idea of what it means to truly be a cowgirl, at a time when they were expected to be lady like, wear corsets, and ride side saddle.

The Style

After a long day tattooing, trying to make every line perfect, and striving for perfection, my regular style can start to feel a bit constricted for me. I decided to lean into this playful approach for a while to just let my hand move.

This style is a total departure for me. Because of my history with ballet, painting like this feels like a return to that movement in a way. It’s not about clean lines; it’s about the rhythm and the physical energy on the paper. I’ve wanted to experiment with this for a long time, and I love how it breathes new life into these old-school designs.
